Lecture Series Biotechnology: One Health Perpective in Human Life

On Wednesday, November 9, 2022, the Lecture Series on Biotechnology with the theme “One Health Perspective in Human Life” took place in the Lecture Room on the 3rd floor of the Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event featured guest speakers including:

  1. Dr. Aneta Afelt from the University of Warsaw, Poland Topic: Globalization and Impact on Epidemiological Risk in the Anthropocene – One Health Concept
  2. IRD – Institut de Recherche pour le Développement Montpellier, France Topic: [Topic title not provided in the text]
  3. Prof. Dr. drh. Wayan Tunas Artama from Gadjah Mada University Topic: Anti-microbial Resistance Challenge from a One Health Perspective

The event commenced with an opening address from Dr. Dini Wahyu Kartika Sari, S.Pi., M.Si., who is the Head of the Master’s Program in Biotechnology. This was followed by a speech by Dr. Yekti Asih Purwestri, S.Si., M.Si. The career lecture event was attended by students from the Biotechnology Master’s Program at UGM. This career lecture is in line with the 3rd and 4th SDGs. read more

The Workshop on Developing Proteomic Analysis Competence for the Development of Peptide-Based Anti-Cancer and Anti-Bacterial Agents took place at The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, from October 31 to November 2, 2022. The event featured several speakers, including:

  1. Prof. Manjunatha Kini (Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore)
  2. Respati Tri Swasono, S.Si., M.Phil., Ph.D. (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UGM)
  3. Tri Joko Raharjo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UGM)
  4. Muhammad Saifur Rohman, S.P., M.Si., M.Eng., Ph.D. (Faculty of Agriculture, UGM)
  5. Eka Sunarwidhi Prasedya, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Universitas Negeri Mataram)

The background for organizing this workshop lies in the persistent global health issue of cancer, which remains a leading cause of high mortality rates and ranks as the second most common cause of death worldwide. Conventional cancer treatment methods, including chemotherapy and surgery, have not yielded optimal results due to the significant side effects that impact the quality of life for patients. These side effects are often associated with the lack of specificity in chemotherapy drugs, which also damage normal cells. read more

The 8th National Biotechnology Seminar “Biotechnology for Climate Change and Global Warming Mitigation.”

The 8th National Biotechnology Seminar is an annual event organized by the Master’s Program in Biotechnology in collaboration with The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. This seminar takes place each year and is divided into four areas: agriculture, health, industry, and environment. In 2022, the 8th Biotechnology Seminar was able to be held in person due to the subsiding COVID-19 pandemic, with strict adherence to health protocols.

The theme of the 8th National Biotechnology Seminar was “Biotechnology for Climate Change and Global Warming Mitigation.” This theme was chosen in response to the wide-ranging implications of climate change on food security, health, safety, and the need for adaptation to a changing climate. The Protein Electrophoresis and Western Blot Training at The Research Center for Biotechnology UGM

From Monday to Wednesday, September 26th to October 5th, 2022, The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada organized a Protein Electrophoresis and Western Blot Training. The participants included members from the Integrated Research and Testing Institute, namely:

  1. Puspa Hening, S.Pd., M.Biotech.
  2. Dhela Aprilyandha Roshitafandi.

The training began with an introductory presentation delivered by Dr. Yekti Asih Purwestri, S.Si., M.Si., who is also the Head of The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. Following this, practical sessions were conducted in the Biochemistry Laboratory under the guidance of our laboratory technician, Mrs. Arsiyah. read more

Sleman, July 28, 2022. Healthy food is the key to healthy growth and development, especially in children during their growth period. Nutritional intake is not only obtained at home but also often from the environment, including schools. A survey conducted by BPOM in 2010 stated that more than 70% of food poisoning incidents from snacks occurred among elementary school students. The selection of safe foods and snacks for children is crucial to prevent similar incidents from recurring within the school environment. read more
