The 8th National Biotechnology Seminar is an annual event organized by the Master’s Program in Biotechnology in collaboration with The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. This seminar takes place each year and is divided into four areas: agriculture, health, industry, and environment. In 2022, the 8th Biotechnology Seminar was able to be held in person due to the subsiding COVID-19 pandemic, with strict adherence to health protocols.
The theme of the 8th National Biotechnology Seminar was “Biotechnology for Climate Change and Global Warming Mitigation.” This theme was chosen in response to the wide-ranging implications of climate change on food security, health, safety, and the need for adaptation to a changing climate. Various strategies, utilizing biotechnological approaches, can be applied to address climate change. Thus, in line with the implementation of the 13th SDG.
The National Seminar took place on Saturday, October 29, 2022, in the Auditorium of the 5th floor of the Graduate School Building at UGM. The event was attended by approximately 120 participants from various educational backgrounds. There were four keynote speakers for the seminar:
- Prof. Widodo, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D.
- Prof. Dr. Ir. Alim Isnansetyo, M.Sc.
- Prof. R. Manjunatha Kini
- Prof. Tatsuo Sato, Ph.D.
The seminar was conducted while adhering to the prevailing health protocols, ensuring the safety of all attendees.
Looking ahead, it is anticipated that the National Seminar IX will be organized, continuing the tradition with an even better theme than in previous years. The goal would likely be to further enhance the quality of the seminar, addressing emerging topics and fostering discussions among researchers, experts, and participants to contribute to advancements in the field of biotechnology.
