International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) team of Universitas Gadjah Mada presents a breakthrough in gold bioleaching process with cyanide. By applying synthetic biology, iGEM UGM engineered Chromobacterium violaceum to self-regulate cyanide production. Thus, minimizes cyanide leaked into environment.
The iGEM UGM team consists of students and lecturers from various faculty across Universitas Gadjah Mada – biology, mathematic and science, agriculture, engineering, and economy & business. The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada developed and facilitated this multi-disciplinary team to run the synthetic biology project. This activity is in line with SDG 4, which is to improve the quality of education.
On Monday, September 6, 2021, The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada welcomed the student participants of Internship Program from SMK Negeri 2 Depok Sleman. The interns were greeted by the Center’s Secretary, who also represented the Head of the Study Center, the Teaching Staff, and Laboratory Technicians.
The welcoming of the internship students was conducted while adhering to health protocols, considering the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation that has not fully improved yet.
The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada recently organized a Molecular Docking Training with Dr. Mohamad Saifur Rohman as the training facilitator. The training took place from August 23 to September 4, 2021. There were a total of 9 topics covered during the training, including: Protein structure (basic concept), Protein Structure Prediction (basic concept), Modelling: Homology (Modeller), Ab Initio Modelling: trROSETTA, Molecular Visualization (PyMol), Molecular Docking: basic concept, AutoDock Tools and AutoDock Vina, iBABEL and LigPlus, and Protein-protein Docking (HADDOCK). The event was attended by Intan Ria Neliana, S.Pd., M.Biotech. from the Integrated Laboratory and Technology Innovation Center of Jember University. This activity supports SDGs 2, 3 and 4. Helping to improve food safety and nutrition, promoting healthy living and with this training also helps broaden horizons with good education.
