RUBIS International Workshop on the Resilience of Rubber-based Agroforestry Systems in the Context of Global Change is organized by a consortium of CIRAD, IRRI, and UGM; under the umbrella of the RUBIS (RUbber agroforestry Breeding Initiative for Smallholders) project. This international workshop was held on April 5th – 9th 2021 and aims to bring together key scientific actors to deliver a complete inventory of all studies on rubber-based agroforestry systems and to define a comprehensive typology of this system to provide new directions in the development of rubber-based agroforestry systems that are more efficient and resilient to global changes.
Monitoring antimicrobial resistance in agroecosystems (MAMRA) is a collaboration between The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia and Resistomap Oy, Finland. The use of antimicrobial agents in humans and animals has been shown to cause AMR outbreaks and threaten global health. Few studies have focused on the impact of antimicrobial use on livestock. This project aims to monitor and characterize the abundance and distribution of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) on farms. This activity is aligned with efforts to promote healthy living for life in accordance with SDG 3.

On Monday (2/3/2020), the Biotechnology Study Center at Gadjah Mada University, in collaboration with Formind Institute, organized a series of discussions titled “Proteomics and Metabolomics Talk For Human Welfare.” The purpose of these discussions was to delve deeper and wider into the utilization and development of proteomics and metabolomics in the field of Biotechnology. Around 40 participants and invited guests actively took part in the discussion. Apart from UGM, participants came from various universities and institutions such as UI, UNS, UIN Walisongo Semarang, Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (Puslitkoka) Jember, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), and HPPBI.
The Biotechnology Study Center at Gadjah Mada University, in collaboration with QAAFI-University of Queensland and Crawford Fund Australia, organized a workshop titled “Capacity Building for Young Scientists on Plant Disease Management.” The workshop featured Professor Andre Drenth from Queensland University as the main speaker. Professor Andre Drenth, a World Class Professor, was invited by the Biotechnology Study Center.
The workshop, held at the Biotechnology Study Center, spanned 5 days from February 10th to 14th, 2020. The event involved 12 selected students from Gadjah Mada University, who actively participated. The participants were provided with valuable training to enhance their presentation skills in English and to develop manuscripts for internationally reputable journals. Additionally, the workshop equipped the participants with the necessary tools to become successful researchers.
