On Monday (2/3/2020), the Biotechnology Study Center at Gadjah Mada University, in collaboration with Formind Institute, organized a series of discussions titled “Proteomics and Metabolomics Talk For Human Welfare.” The purpose of these discussions was to delve deeper and wider into the utilization and development of proteomics and metabolomics in the field of Biotechnology. Around 40 participants and invited guests actively took part in the discussion. Apart from UGM, participants came from various universities and institutions such as UI, UNS, UIN Walisongo Semarang, Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (Puslitkoka) Jember, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), and HPPBI.
The discussion event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Subandiyah, M.Agr.Sc., the Head of the Biotechnology Study Center, Gadjah Mada University. The event consisted of two sessions. The first session featured presentations by two speakers, namely Prof. Enoch Y. Park from Shizuoka University and Dr. Tri Joko Raharjo, S.Si., M.Si from Gadjah Mada University. Prof. Enoch Y. Park discussed efforts to find a fast, accurate, and easy way to handle viruses. Meanwhile, Dr. Tri Joko Raharjo, S.Si., M.Si presented the utilization of proteomics as a method for identifying halal and non-halal products. At the end of the first session, I Made Andi Arsana, S.T., M.E., Ph.D., the Head of the Office of International Affairs at Gadjah Mada University, attended and delivered a welcome speech, followed by presenting certificates of appreciation to the speakers of the first session.
In the second session, the discussion continued with an in-depth exploration of Metabolomics. The first presentation was given by Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas from Gadjah Mada University. In this presentation, Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas explained her research on the role of metabolomics in the field of Agronomy and Pharmacology in Indonesia. The second presentation was delivered by Dr. Sastia Prama Putri from Osaka University and ITB. Dr. Sastia discussed the application of metabolomics to various food sources in Indonesia, such as coffee, chocolate, and shrimp. The discussion concluded with an enthusiastic Q&A session from the participants. Throughout the event, posters showcasing research related to metabolomics and proteomics in the fields of agriculture, food, microbiology, and health were displayed.
The Proteomics and Metabolomics Talk For Human Welfare event was also supported by the Indonesian International Scientists Association and sponsored by PT. Ditek Jaya and Shimadzu, who provided a presentation on the utilization of Mass Spectrometry (MS). During the event, all participants along with the speakers took a group photo.
