Welcoming and Introduction of PKL Students from SMK N 2 Depok at The Research Center for Biotechnology UGM

Monday, July 4, 2022, a total of 9 students from SMK N 2 Depok officially began their Field Work Practice (Praktek Kerja Lapangan or PKL) at The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. The PKL Students’ initiation was marked by a welcoming speech from the Head of The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dr. Yekti Asih Purwestri, S.Si., M.Si. She expressed that the presence of PKL students at The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada has a positive impact and is mutually beneficial, similar to a symbiotic mutualism relationship.

The welcoming and introduction session for the PKL students began at 08:00 AM and lasted until 09:30 AM in the Meeting Room on the 2nd floor of The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event was attended by the Head of The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, the Head of the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology at UGM, and all the educational staff (tendik) of The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. The aim of organizing the PKL activity was to provide valuable knowledge and experiences to the students that could be applied in their daily lives. This activity aims to improve the quality of education for students in accordance with SDg 4.

Research Collaboration Coordination between CIRAD and UGM (The Research Center for Biotechnology) with Mr. Pascal Montoro

Monday, June 27, 2022, the Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada welcomed Prof. Pascal Montoro, who is the Principal Investigator for the Research Collaboration titled “Rubber Agroforestry Breeding Initiative for Smallholders” between UGM and CIRAD (Centre de Cooperation Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Developpement).

The ongoing coordination is expected to yield beneficial and improved outcomes for the future. This activity is in line with the 17th SDG on partnership for the goals.

Farewell of PKL Students from SMK N 2 Depok

Monday, May 30, 2022, The farewell event for the PKL (internship) students from SMKN 2 Depok was held in the meeting room of The Research Center of Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event was attended by the Head of The Research Center of Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, the Head of the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology, the supervising teacher for the PKL students, the staff of The Research Center of Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, and the PKL students from SMKN 2 Depok.

The farewell event was marked by the presentation of PKL certificates issued by The Research Center of Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada and the exchange of souvenirs from both The Research Center of Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada and SMK N 2 Depok. There were 5 female students who participated in the PKL program at The Research Center of Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada from September 4, 2021, to May 31, 2022. Here are their names:

  2. Faidatun Nur Alifah (Analytical Chemistry)
  3. Fransisca Shangla Arliyana (Analytical Chemistry)
  4. Istiqomah Dwi Nur Hidayati (Analytical Chemistry)

May our prayers accompany these students as they complete their PKL period. We hope that they can continue their education or find the best job opportunities. May the knowledge imparted by the Center for Biotechnology Studies be put to good use and bring them success in their future endeavors. This activity is in line with SDG mission 4, which is to improve the quality of education. With this activity the students gain new experiences.

Syawalan of The Research Center for Biotechnology UGM

Friday, May 13, 2022, the Center for Biotechnology Studies has enthusiastically held a Syawalan for the family of The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada. With the holding of this event, it is hoped that the relationship will become closer and get blessings from God Almighty. Syawalan was attended by education staff, leaders, research assistants, and PKL students at the Biotechnology Study Center.

 

The Syawalan ended with a meal and casual conversation. Although the pandemic situation in Indonesia has improved, this event still followed government guidelines and health protocols while organizing the Syawalan event. This activity is useful to promote the 8th SDG, which is about economic development during Covid.

 

Collaborative Discussion between ACIAR (Australian Center for International Agricultural Research) and The Research Center for Biotechnology UGM

As part of the research and education collaboration with ACIAR (Australian Center for International Agricultural Research), under Project HORT/2019/164: “Preparedness and Management of Huánglóngbìng (Citrus Greening Disease) to Safeguard the Future of Citrus Industry in Australia, China, and Indonesia,” The Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada held a discussion with ACIAR on Monday, May 17, 2022. The discussion was attended by approximately 15 individuals, including Irene Ilga Kernot, who represented ACIAR.

The activity began with a visit to the Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, followed by a collaborative discussion at the Research Center for Biotechnology Universitas Gadjah Mada, starting with a shared lunch. The hope behind this discussion is that it will further enhance the ACIAR-UGM relationship, leading to fruitful outcomes in the future. This activity enhances cooperation between the two parties in accordance with the 17th SDG mission.
